Let’s Eat

Let’s Eat It is with great pride that I can declare Room Three of The Palace Garden open. It has been a long time coming with plenty of distraction and a generous helping of procrastination standing in its way, so it comes as a bit of a surprise that there isn’t much left to do except weed and wait. Even as a new garden the … Continue reading Let’s Eat

For my Whanganui friends I'll be down that way this weekend. So, here's your chance to get your hands on a signed copy of Growing Vegetables and enjoy a beautiful garden in the old Gonville Swimming Pool thanks to the amazing peopLit. Whanganui Booklovers Festivals Festival ! I'm looking forward to it already. : o) ...

How to plan a vegie garden in a small space.I have a spare garden bed and the good people at Yates NZ gave me a full set of their Small Gardens range of seeds so I’m going to use that space to grow them all!The first thing to do was to make a plan to see if it all fits:✏ I drew the garden to scale on grid paper. I made 1cm on paper represent 25cm in the garden.✏ I looked at the back of all the packets for plant and row spacing to see if it would all fit was pleasantly surprised to see there was more than enough space for everyone!✏ For convenience it all ended up in rows, but that made it easy using the plant spacing guides to work out how many plants I would need for the space I’d allowed.✏ Next, I decided where everything should go with the taller plants at the back – which for me is the North end. ✏ I am going to save some space by giving the peas some trellis to grow up, instead of sprawling on the ground. Now I know how many seeds I need to start… I should probably get on and start them!I’ll keep you posted. : o)#Sponsored #Gifted #SmallGardens ...

This week was the first week in a long time where the garden could take priority, and aside from some dodgy weather and an accidental nana nap, I'm quite pleased with what I achieved.I'm especially proud of my chicken proofing. You can read all about it here : o) ...

How to grow a vegie garden in a small spaceIn my new garden layout, I found myself with a spare 1m x 4m garden bed. Coincidentally the good people at Yates NZ gave me a full set of their Small Gardens range of seeds so I decided to pretend that spare bed was my only garden bed and am going to grow all of the exciting Small Gardens seeds in this bed, with no cheating overflow going elsewhere. Now I just need to eat carrot and celeriac like they are going out of fashion and prepare the soil, make a plan and sow seeds. We are past the first day of spring, but there is still plenty of time to start a vegie garden from seed.I’ll keep you posted. : o)#Sponsored #Gifted #Small Gardens ...
