The traditional day to plant onions is the shortest day and that day is today.It doesn't have to be today - in NZ they can be started anytime between late autumn and late winter! I planted these a couple of days ago because the weather was nice.This is how you plant them - they don't need to go deep. Just look at this perfectly crumbly soil!!!It has the texture of mixing butter into sugar when you're baking!🥕The best thing to grow in this kind of soil is carrots! They love a loose fluffy soil, not too rich, mind you.🥕Sow the seeds in a thick row, so the collective efforts of them all push the soil up, and then wait for the magic!🥕You will need to thin them out later, but that is a task for future me.🐓I've had to pop a net over mine because my chickens keep escaping!🐓 NB - I'm lucky I can grow carrots all year round - but check which carrot varieties are suitable for your garden right now. : o) ...
