End of a decade – Part Two of Two

Welcome to the second installment of my gardening journey over the last decade.  In the last post we explored the first half of the Norties where I started out as a home gardener entering a competition and found myself being propelled on an incredible journey I couldn’t have foreseen from those early days.   (If you haven’t read it yet you can check it out here … Continue reading End of a decade – Part Two of Two

Garden Planning – the Final Push

Sector 4 is all fruit so no planning needed there – all I have to do before the season changes is evict the aging three year old strawberries and replace them with their offspring runners to keep the production of delicious berries at an optimum. So that leaves the back row that forms sector 5.  If you take the two raspberry beds (27 and 28) … Continue reading Garden Planning – the Final Push

Planning the Garden – Sector Three

Sector three was once the outer edge of the garden.  I’m not entirely sure how it has become part of the heart of the garden, but I think I may need a fence.    I’m really pleased with my sector systems as it helps break down my large garden on so many levels – weeding, watering and feeding a sector a day makes the insurmountable achievable.   … Continue reading Planning the Garden – Sector Three

Did I mention I was going to America?

It is now close enough that I am excited but also extremely nervous.  I haven’t flown anywhere significant by myself since I was young and fearless and headed off to London alone for my big OE.  It was the first time I’d ever been on any kind of plane and was an adventure that offered the thrill of a roller coaster.  It’s what kiwis do … Continue reading Did I mention I was going to America?

And for my second blog of the day we are going to have a celebration.

Where the heck have I been?

I have been absent for quite some time.  Sorry. I haven’t been doing nothing, I have been blogging – just not here.  I created 53 blogs over 95 days outlining the ups and downs of spring and early summer veggie growing.  For my efforts I picked up a minor prize of a couple of gardening books.  Yay!  Well it would have been rude to go … Continue reading Where the heck have I been?

I feel like I am walking a fine line in a balancing act and may spread myself too thin.

The problem is I love my garden.  I’m not the greatest gardener in the world and my garden can best be described as “rustic.”  But it is my little slice of paradise that I can indulge myself, taking comfort from the knowledge that my family are being fed food that is not only healthy, fresh, has a low carbon footprint, low air miles, is cheap … Continue reading I feel like I am walking a fine line in a balancing act and may spread myself too thin.
