Boxed in

We are firmly on the down hill run to spring and the final weeks of winter are imminent.  Ordinarily this fills me with excitement and a large portion of my being is jumping with joy.  The rest of me really wants to apply some kind of seasonal hand brake.  There is still too much to be done.   I have my lists and a loose sense … Continue reading Boxed in

Today was the last full day on Norfolk Island with my lovely Botanica World Discoveries guests. We packed a lot into the last day with a breakfast bushwalk to great the day with a hearty breakfast at the Captain Cook memorial point, followed by a bit of fish finding in a glass bottom boat. All of the fish were so beautiful, the coral was exquisite and we saw a turtle! The last stop for the day was the incredible Pitcairn Settlement Village with our lovely hosts explaining their history with a magnificent display of items from their past. The last dinner on the island was at the delicious Homestead restaurant where the food and hospitality was superb.Tomorrow, all going well will begin our journey home. : o) ... Another fabulous day in paradise for our Botanica Norfolk Island Tour. The sun is shining, the sky is blue and the ocean is warm and crystal clear!Today we took a deep dive into the work being done to protect the rare and endangered native and endemic plants that have been driven to the brink of survival over the years with the wonderful Margaret Christian who is Norfolk Island’s leading expert naturalist and so passionate about protecting their native treasures. It was such a pleasure to see her nursery and the plants thriving in the national park. Then it was off for an indulgence tour with wine and cheese beside the sea. : o) ... See MoreSee Less

Today was a jam-packed day on our Botanica World Discoveries Norfolk Island tour as we tried to make sure we didn't miss a thing because of our interesting start to the trip.First up it was the convict settlement tour and a visit to the cemetery to explore the dark and tragic history that darkened this paradise in the Pacific. Then it was all things plants with a visit to some private gardens, the 100 acre reserve and the Botanic Gardens. The day ended with the famous fish fry with delicious food and dancing. I'll be sleeping well tonight! : o) ... See MoreSee Less

This is the most amazing island. Everyone is so friendly and helpful so you can't help but have a wonderful time, even when the weather is not as bad as the day before but still less than ideal.Today onBotanica World Discoveriesanica Norfolk Island adventure we took a paddock to plate tour to see how the locals have creatively overcome the challenges in their supply chain. Then we took a trip to an incredible museum jam packed in every nook and cranny with items from the near and distant. One of my guests even found an ancestors story in a handwritten journal! The cyclorama is a magnificent display laying out the story of the mutiny on the Bounty in a easy to understand way. Spoiler alert - The breadfruit had an important role in the situation. And finally we wandered through the Queen Victoria Memorial Garden with its array of delightful specimens. It was a full and memorable day. : o) ... When you're on a beautiful island in the middle of the Pacific after an interesting journey to get there, even if it is pouring with rain and howling a hoolie, it is a celebration!Today onBotanica World Discoveriesanica Norfolk Island tour we visited the home of the famous writer Colleen McCulloch, which was quite something. She lived an amazing life. Then we took a tour around the island to check out the best places, stopping for a cuppa and a scone and visited the most beautiful St Barnabas Chapel. Hopefully the weather will be better tomorrow but it is still an amazing place in the rain! : o) ... See MoreSee Less
