Lists of things to do

While we were away, I did do a lot of thinking about what needs to be done to get the garden ready for the spring.  I have a fixed vision in my head of how I want it to be and it is shaping up nicely.  But things were also happening behind the scenes.  I’m not all that great with my spatial awareness as shown … Continue reading Lists of things to do

Moving Mountains

I have a mountain of earth to move. It equates to 6 truckloads of good quality swamp-like soil from ‘up near Froggies’ near where we used to live.  I feel confident it will be a fabulous growing medium for my new garden and it appears to be weed free.  It has been hanging about for a couple of months now and nothing nasty has reared … Continue reading Moving Mountains

Progress

I feel like I have bitten off more than I can chew, and my eyes are bigger than my stomach but I really want what I want, so I will work hard to get there.   My garden is huge.  Last time it was built up slowly over 10 years.  This time I want it all done in 10 weeks.  Actually I have longer than that … Continue reading Progress

I might be a passenger princess on this trip but it's not all play and no work... I've been working on the 2026/27 garden plan and am hoping to make some dramatic changes.Having said that... There have been a few distractions like champagne and caviar being served off a surf board in Fakarava, while fairly decent sized sharks cruise past! One of my favourite days. : o) ... Even at sea we will remember them. As the only kiwi's among a handful of Aussies we were privileged to attend an emotionally moving dawn ANZAC service. Lest We Forget. ... See MoreSee Less

Today was a magnificent garden filled day. We took a tour with the lovely Herbert from Hava'i Tour by 4x4y 4x4, who was a passionate permaculture gardener from the island of Raiatea in Tahiti. We had the most fabulous experience learning about the agricultural history of the island, including visiting a pearl farm, and finding out about the plants that grow locally, and specifically all of the amazing edible plants that can be grown in the tropical French Polynesia. Not only did we get to visit the Botanical Gardens on the Island, but we got to visit our guide's home to see his productive vegetable garden and try the vanilla infused honey he makes with his bees from the flowers of the coconut trees. It was a truly wonderful day and one I wont forget for a very long time. : o) ... See MoreSee Less

Today we went to the most amazingly tranquil garden - the Jardins De L'Assemblée De La Polynésie Française in Papeete, Tahiti. It was once the palace of Queen Pomare IV in the 1800's. It is now home to the French Polynesian Assembly. There is a beautiful garden path beside a crystal clear stream that lead to a freshwater pool where Queen Pomare IV used to bathe. It was like a lush secret garden in the middle of the hustle and bustle of downtown Papeete. : o) ... See MoreSee Less
