I like to encourage frogs in the garden to help with my pest management program - AKA slug eaters and I delight in seeing them in my wildlife pond or in a cool shady spot. However I was not expecting to see one in the dog bowl... in the kitchen!Frogs in the garden - Yes. Frogs in the house - a big NO! : o) ... See MoreSee Less

On St Patrick's Day everything is supposed to be green and potatoes are popular. However, my potatoes are purple!I love these ones - the variety is Purple Heart and they are purple all the way through and stay purple when cooked - not grey but a vibrant purple. Many of the purple vegetables turn a disappointing green when cooked - I'm looking at you purple beans! So that is how we'll be celebrating St Patrick bringing God to Ireland and driving out the snakes, by dining on purple potatoes with friends. Green is so last year. : o) ... See MoreSee Less

Confession time: I have a lot of jars in my pantry with unknow contents. In the past I've whipped up batches of jams, chutneys, relishes and pickles and I've either convinced myself I'll remember what they are but never do or written directly on the jar with a permanent marker pen that turns out isn't permanent or against the dark colour of the contents it becomes unreadable. It is quite the mysterious surprise when opening a new jar. I have a new system now - I've started using painters tape with all the details written on, and this year I'm using blue. Next year I'll use the green one and then I'll use the standard cream one, with the theory that by the time I'm using the cream one, there shouldn't be any blue ones left. I've gone from blasé to over organised! But doesn't my Hot Sweet Chilli Sauce look great with its blue labels?! : o) ... See MoreSee Less

We've been promised rain... good rain, a couple of times this week. But it hasn't happened - not even a single drop. We got wind yesterday instead, so the garden and everything else has become so very dry. It has been such a challenging season with the wild see-sawing between soggy and arid! If I'm looking for an upside the colours are amazing. : o) ... See MoreSee Less
