The weather has packed up again. I could garden in the rain in my sturdy red raincoat, but I don't want to and at this point I don't need to. The garden is in a good position with most weeds conquered and most beds enriched with nutrients to nourish a new generation so (aside from all the projects) all there is to do is wait. So I picked up some light reading. To be honest I don't know where it came from but there it was ... just waiting to be read. The Amateur Gardener by A.G.L. Hellyer (1948) says in the preface that it's 'sufficiently up-to-date' with the latest technical developments and scientific information as a result of horticultural research since the two wars! It will be interesting to see what was considered cutting edge in the garden a whole lifetime ago!The long range weather forecast looks miserable so there'll be be plenty of spare moments for some time travel! : o) ...

They say 'He who hesitates is lost'.Well life got in the way and I put off harvesting my perfect broccoli for just one more day, with delicious intentions of whipping up a satay sauce to smother that baby in spicy peanutty goodness. So while I was busy being busy, someone else decided my broccoli was good enough to eat! I can't say I'm pleased about it, and am still not sure who it was, but I will confess to chopping off the bad bits and eating it anyway - and it was everything I had imagined it would be... absolutely delicious! : o) ...
