I'm not going to lie, I was a little nervous going to check on the garden after a week away and a cyclone thrown in for good measure, but I was pleasantly surprised. Aside from a lot of rain and wind that isn't too far beyond the realms of what is normal for us here on the coast, there certainly wasn't anything that would make for the kind of sensation dramatic image that would draw in shocked sympathy clicks. So, I went looking for bright sides and there is a multitude of self-seeded lettuce that has been nourished and nurtured by the soggy conditions - although to be fair there is also a multitude of tiny weeds that will need a hoe waved through them forthwith! : o) ... After 66577 steps, over 36km and 640 photos on my photo reel, I've returned home safely fromNew Zealand Gardens TrustTrust conference with my mind buzzing with ideas and possibilities and my heart full after spending time with some of the loveliest gardeners. It was an amazing experience and was one of my favorite conferences. 😉🏵️ But before I completely sign off from my latest adventure, let me tell you about the last couple of gardens...🏵️ I learnt there is an amazing Rhododendron walk beside the river, behind the cenotaph in Geraldine. It is on the 'Must Visit' list when I'm back there in November because the flowers will be in full bloom and it will be glorious!🏵️ And the very last garden was Capricorns Garden with as the most amazing sculptures through the garden complimenting the majestic mature park like surrounded with grand old tree and crystal clear ponds and streams. The hospitalilty was generous and it was the perfect garden to end on. And now I'll put my feet up and take a well earned break... Just for a little bit! : o) ... See MoreSee Less

Today was another exceptional day with the New Zealand Gardens Trust. 🏵️We started with a foggy morning as we headed into the Moa Valley to see ancient cave paintings at Craigmore Station as well as finding out about the farms regeneration practices to restore and heal the land.🏵️Then we explored the Timaru Botanic Gardens with it rich history linking back to the 1860's.🏵️The Trevor Griffiths Rose Garden was our final garden of the day with its beautiful layout designed by the late Sir Miles Warren. 🏵️The day was enhanced by several amazing speakers exploring the theme of the conference 'Honouring the past, gifting to the future.'I feel super inspired and can't wait to get back into my garden (although my flight is scheduled for the midst of the storm... Wish me luck!)There is still a little more gardeny goodness to be had before this fabulous experience comes to an end! : o) ... See MoreSee Less

So much gardeny goodness today with the New Zealand Gardens Trust as we went from Timaru to Oamaru and back again, it was a struggle to pick the best photos for you out of the squillions I took. We walked for miles, up hill and down dale and across pristine leaf stew lawns. It was fabulous!🏵️First up was the most amazing kitchen garden at Riverstone Kitchen. There was so much to see in every inch of the place. We barely had enough time. It is certainly a place I'll need to go back!🏵️The next garden was Broadfield Park Garden which was a delightful garden filled with whimsy that reflected the personality of the fabulous owner.🏵️ A guided tour through an autumnal Oamaru Public Garden was so lovely as I normally visit in the spring.🏵️The Douglas Arboretum was an intergenerational effort with hundreds of different types of trees created an incredible forest filled with surprise and majesty.🏵️The last garden of the day Willow Park was a joy as the incredible park-like ground rang out with the joyous sound of children playing, adding to the ambiance of an amazing garden.
