The garden

Good Habits start today.

Good Habits start today.

This is just a quick post and a public declaration, that I will be getting stuff done or be publicly shamed.

The recent short weeks combined with a new ‘no back to school’ empty nest thing has really thrown the start of my February into disarray.  I feel like  I’ve been waiting for some kind of normal to kick in but I realise now I need to create a new one.

Starting today – which feels like a new week on a Wednesday thanks to yesterday being another holiday, I am going to attempt to make changes to get a good rhythm going for the year.  One thing, in all my years, I’m beginning to understand – everyday is a great day for a new start.  You don’t need a new year, a new month or even a Monday, you just have to do it.  Or at least try.

To begin this new attempt, I will do a big stocktake of the garden today with a list of things that need doing, with the garden, computer gardening and kitchen gardening and rate them in order of importance and then report back.  I work better with deadlines  although I do tend to treat my own self set deadlines with a degree of contempt and have no qualms pushing them to the side.   I need to be strong in my efforts to avoid distractions – I really don’t need to know about half the things I end up looking into.  Having said that any gardening content on social media is good content… when you have time to do it.  Maybe if I set aside some actual time so it doesn’t feel like a guilty pleasure, and I have a determined stopping point.

Last  year in the midst of  my busyness with a squillion deadlines I manage to push all my projects along together, chipping away at each of them each day to get everything done in good time.  I need to do this again.

I also need to put the garden first.  Without the garden there is nothing going on here.  It is my muse, my store, my gym, my job and loads of other labels.  I have allowed the apathy of ‘the holidays’ and the heat of the sun to drift through my days rudderless.  Well, no more.  Good Habits start today.

Come again soon – Tomorrow I will come back with a list.

  1. I have woken up to the same idea. Sort out the garden! I have dahlias growing under the fruit trees, however they are growing so high & taking over. So out they go. I’ve decided the fruit trees need some space apart from some Hosta that will stay. I think I’ll need a truck load of mulch. Good luck with yours.
