Raining there not here

Our water tank has a little red ball poking out of the top.Β  It should be on a long stick as the internal part is floating on the surface of the water letting us know just how much we have left.Β  But it seems to be constantly positioned on a short stick as we ride the rest of this season of little rain.Β  I crunched … Continue reading Raining there not here

We need a lake

I have spent a lot of time over the years just plodding about in my own garden and this made me perfectly happy.Β  I love my garden and I wake up every morning and feel blessed to be living where we do.Β  It is my slice of paradise and gives me all I need – all the vegies we can eat, an incredible vista, all … Continue reading We need a lake

I need a new rhubarb because I accidentally grew kiwano!I did something that I know I shouldn't have done. Ordinarily nothing good comes from letting volunteers grown in close proximity to plants I actually want to grow - they always come off second best or in this case... die!I don't even know where the kiwano came from. I grew them once several years ago and decided it wasn't worth it and decided not to grow it again. However when a strange vine showed up in my rhubarb patch I thought 'I wonder what that is... I'll let it do its thing to find out...'Now I have more than a dozen super spikey not quite ripe kiwano and a dead rhubarb.I've got one in a paper bag with a banana but I may need to do research to find out what to do with them to redeem the situation! : o) ... Make hay while the sun shines!Since we've been away the lawn may have gotten away on us... We gave we Millie the Robot Mower a bit of a break too so the grass got too long for her. Using the push mower would have been a bit of a workout, so when a friendly neighbour suggests taking care of it with his tractor the only sensible answer was yes please! : o) ... See MoreSee Less

Happy Birthday Garden On this day in 2018 work started on creating my garden. It always amazes me how far I've come.It isn't the easiest piece of land to garden on with the salt laden wind frequently howling a hoolie, but it is my piece of land and I've spent many hours toiling in the soil and produced many bountiful harvests and brought my vision to life.I will continue to grow food and stretch my botanical creativities for many more years to come! : o)πŸŽ‚πŸ₯‚πŸ‘©β€πŸŒΎ ... Better late than never. Ordinarily I give my rosemary hedge 3 trims a year - once in spring to sharpen it up after the winter and to keep it from growing out of control, and once in summer to keep it looking sharp and knock it back a bit and once in autumn to rein in unruly growth before winter sets in. Trimming little and often helps keep it dense and not too big that it over steps its position. This is the latest I've done it, but just didn't have the opportunity before today. I'm hoping this bubble of nice weather will help it recover from the shock before winter well and truly ravages it. It's not perfect and is a tad wonky, but I didn't take much - just the fluffy bits poking up over the top. I'm sure it will be fine. : o) ... See MoreSee Less

This is my meagre popcorn harvest from 48 plants and I'm declaring it a success because, if I'm to be honest I wasn't expecting anything at all!My popcorn journey this season has been fraught with drama.🍿 The first issue was the stunted growth from the self seeded wild rocket growing under some of the corn, that I left in place hoping to eat them - I never did. This decision is going to have long lasting repercussions because I've only just pulled them out and they have dropped hundreds, if not thousands of seeds. I only have myself to blame.🍿 Then, due to my travel neglect, aphids invaded - the infestation was so severe that it actually killed some tall, strong and mighty stalks. 🍿And finally, I didn't get a chance to harvest what ears where still there before hitting the road again... I thought the rats would have got them all.And so I am proud of my popcorn harvest because I wasn't expecting one at all! : o) ... See MoreSee Less
