I’ve been away

After all of the dramatic events of the last nine months – making the decision to move, preparing the house to sell, not to mention the extremely stressful sale process.  That is the only thing you can’t control and stands firmly between you and your dreams.  Then making the move to the new place, with the festive season smack bang in the middle of the … Continue reading I’ve been away

How do you know what gardening to do now? 🤷Ideally keeping a detailed record of your garden activities, will give you loads of helpful advice from past you, with reminders of what worked well and what didn’t.But if you are anything like me and hopeless with journalling (I have more perfectly lovely notebooks with pristine pages except the first couple than I care to admit) then there are other ways:🤔 I have a camera roll filled with photos of the garden – more often than not a quick out of focus snap as I walk away from a completed task to remind future me what I did and when I did it.🤔 See what the local gardeners are doing. Copy what the majority of them are doing, instead of what a random enthusiastic outlier is doing. There is no race in gardening – you certainly don’t need to be the first – except to have the first red tomato – that is something to be proud off.🤔 Pay close attention to the weather forecast, compare it with the historical data for the same time of the year and see if it fits in with what the plants need. 🤔 Notice the changes in the environment – are blossoms blossoming, are the swallow’s back, are the weeds popping up with a vengeance. This is ‘phenology’ and is nature’s calendar. Look up what these natural spring things suggest is good to do in the garden. 🤔 Ask ya Mum – she usually knows best.🤔 Look at what books and magazines are suggesting you do and compare it with everything above and make an informed decision. There’s no hurry and plants started later when it is warmer will always do better. 🤔 Don’t believe everything you see on the internet – although this bit is ok! : o) ... See MoreSee Less

It was quite rainy today - we've had 7mls and its still steadily falling. You think I would have taken the opportunity to get some housework done....Yeah nah...Looking wistfully out the window wondering if my raincoat is good enough but not really wanting to test it out is much more conducive to a day like today! : o) ...
