GARDENING, VIDEO

Late Again Tour

It has been my intention this year to do a video tour update every month, but I was a bit slow getting the end of May video done.  I put it down to the nasty lurgy I had in between the months.   But better late than never, here is my end of autumn / start of winter garden tour. I think I’m in a good … Continue reading Late Again Tour

I do see a trip to the garden centre in the immediate future as a garden fork had gone through a hose and I thought I had what I needed to fix it and confidently cut the bad bit out, only to find I didn't. I've popped some bright green painters tape over the hose ends so nothing crawls in and so I don't forget to fix it.It does feel good to have most of the irrigation system that hasn't been touched since last season up and running again. With that super El Nino coming I can worry a tad less about keeping my plants hydrated. : o) ...

The first bean from the seeds I sowed 9 days ago has popped up.It is always such a relief with the seeds direct sown out in the wild as there is so much more that can go wrong. All I have to do is wait for the rest of them to pop up and then try to keep them alive and well and safe from harm until they finish giving me something to eat! : o) ...

The chickens are still getting out, so I need to up my defences to protect my new planted seedlings and rows of seeds. 💚 Using the smaller mesh plastic trellis I attached 4x90cm in square 25cm in from each end with cable ties. 💚 Then I cut 2x strips the full width at 25cm and attach them to the opposite sides so the whole thing looks a little like a '+'.💚 Bamboo poles poked through the corner and with cable ties closed and secure the sides and I pushed the poles into the soil to anchor the structure.💚 I used a few landscape staples help hold the bottoms that wanted to curl. And with that my tender wee seedlings are safe and can grow without fear or disturbance. : o) ...

I think it is fair to say my new rhubarb is happy. And I promise I won't let unidentified interlopers take over the bed so I can work out who it is and end up with a squillion almost ripe kiwanos and a smothered rhubarb this year! I'm excited to try a recipe for a frozen rhubarb and lemonade slush I've been hanging on to for far to long, and then you can't forget a refreshing rhubarb bellini with a kiss of prosecco. My new rhubarb has deep red stalks and will give whatever I make a beautiful pink blush.Let me know your favourite rhubarb recipes and I'll add them to my list. : o) ...
