A couple of handfuls of peas and was lucky to get thatEnough gherkins for another 4 jars – lucky we like them.8 cucumbers including one enormous 513g apple cucumber10 zucchini of varying sizes with a couple being borderline marrow270g green beans, 390g purple beans and 440g butter beansNot a bad haul for a Sunday morning.
Sadly the peas are coming to an end. I’m going to wait until the weather cools down a little before growing some more. But we have loads in the freezer for winter days.
Cheers Sarah : o )
You are so inspiring, I’ve just started following and have read all you past posts, they have been so helpful, I recently retired and am turning my 1/2 acre section into gardens and have followed a lot of your plans etc, can’t wait until your next post.
Thank you so much Jan for your kind words, it is really encouraging to me. All the best with your venture, I’m sure you will end up with an amazing garden. Cheers Sarah : o )
Hi Laura. Doing the daily harvest is much easier in the morning to avoid the heat of the day. It always amazes me how much I get each time. Cheers Sarah : o )
A lovely haul Sarah. So far we have been collecting spinach (that has gone to seed) and enormous quantities of zucchini. I have so much zucchini I am grating it and freezing it but I think it might be time for a big batch of vegan zucchini brownies to come out of the bbq any day soon. There are huge zucchini’s sitting on the counter staring at the back of my head now and more on the go! Be afraid…be VERY afraid! 😉
Hi Fran. My spinach has long since given up the ghost and the replacement batch went straight to seed. Chocolate zucchini bread is popular around here. Most guests leave here with zucchini – friends, family, the electrician….. I always vaguely recall glut situations when I’m planting out in the spring, but the full extent of it is never realized until I am up to my eyeballs in veggies! Cheers Sarah : o )
My spinach and silverbeet are bolting for the finish line. Lucky I wanted to learn how to save seed soon, I guess my hand is being forced with the addition of leeks and carrots gone to seed. The bumblebees think that the flowers are lovely though so who am I to deny them? 🙂 I have a lovely recipe for vegan chocolate zucchini brownies that goes down well. Top it with vegan coconut cream ganache and they are gone much faster than the zucchini that spawned their production 😉
Your garden is much bigger a than mine Sarah but I am harvesting every day like you and preserving the surplus in some way. A friend from uk gave me a really useful book – The complete book of small batch preserving by Ellie Toppand Margaret Howard . It has recipes for when you have those handful amounts that you don’t want to waste.
Hi Lindy. Thanks for the tip, I’ll have to see if I can find it online. I’m always after preserving books. After gardening books they are my favourite ones.
Cheers Sarah : o )
Hi Julie. Do you have your own water supply or do you have to pay? We are truly blessed to have a bore and a large rainwater tank. Add to that wonderful swamp soil that loves to hold on to water and watering isn’t such a chore.
It is getting quite dry about the place though. The hills around us are looking quite brown, but down in the swamp we are still green. This weeks rain the boffins are predicting is much needed, but it would be nice if it just fell at night!
Cheers Sarah : o )

Hi Marion. It is such a lovely way to start a day. It makes you feel productive before you have really done anything! Cheers Sarah : o )

Wow, what a great haul Sarah. Have you got that watering system installed yet? Your plants look so very healthy. I’m off out to water mine now 🙂
