And the sun shone brightly.

There is a lesson to be learnt here while winter gardening.  If the sun shines – get outside and take full advantage because you don’t know how long it will last.  We woke up to a lovely sunny morning and so I decided to do my Tuesday actual work stuff, which I got through quite quickly and then I pottered about the place doing bits … Continue reading And the sun shone brightly.

Apparently I need a snake

Since I bodged together my “anti-mouse seed protector device” convinced that it would keep my seeds safe, I have received a lot of helpful advice.  However most of it was pointing out the error of my ways.  And it turns out my “anti-mouse seed protector device” is actually quite useless.  Although it did make me feel good thinking I was doing something to take the … Continue reading Apparently I need a snake

Normal is actually good, even if it means you may get wet!

I’m sitting here listening to the sound of a steady, but not too heavy rain falling.  It just seems a little odd.  We have had very little rain since December and there are all these reports about how dry the summer was, breaking records all over the place.  But I won’t bore you with details about the drought as I could go on forever because … Continue reading Normal is actually good, even if it means you may get wet!

What rain? I must have imagined it.

After two days of heavy rain and unforgiving wind, the weather has settled back down to what it was before as though the rain aberration didn’t even happen at all.  It’s gone all hot and muggy which is making any extended activity under the midday sun a bit of a chore.  I feel really lazy, but I think it’s the heat that is zapping my … Continue reading What rain? I must have imagined it.

I never thought I’d say this but… Yay it’s raining!

It’s the kind of wind and rain that would make an average winter day really miserable.  But here I am inside in the heat – it’s still hot and really muggy, and I’m doing the happy dance at the sight puddles in the driveway.  The kids will need raincoats on their first day back at school in what seems like an eternity.  The summer holidays … Continue reading I never thought I’d say this but… Yay it’s raining!

This summer is beginning to push me to my limits!

We had a freak wind rip into the garden today, bringing with it some nasty rain. The wind jostled all my corn but worst of all was what it did to my tomatoes.  This year, at great expense, I upgraded my tomato stakes from bamboo to fancy wooden ones that were supposed to last for years. I’ll bet you can see where this is going….  … Continue reading This summer is beginning to push me to my limits!

You’d think a good heavy rain shower would be welcome in summer…

Not if you’ve just spent ages watering the garden with a good deep soak after days of no rain! I haven’t done much in the garden lately.  One of the consequences of finding the festive spirit.  So today I was determined to make the day about the garden and I was a little bit worried about what I would find.  But thanks to my handy … Continue reading You’d think a good heavy rain shower would be welcome in summer…

Why is it still raining?

Although I have to say – it hasn’t been continuous – there have been dry bits.  It’s just there has been some rain EVERY DAY!  But still – it’s supposed to be summer – you know – ice cream cones, getting wet by swimming at the beach not being drenched because you can’t find your umbrella, T shirts and shorts – not jeans and jumpers.  … Continue reading Why is it still raining?

The new summer is treating us well – NOT!

The first day held a lot of promise, the sun was shining, there was a light breeze, but the temperatures were still a little cool, and instead of hiding in the shade from the heat of the sun, everyone wanted to be in its rays to bask in its warmth. The second day was windy and grey that turned into that rain that isn’t really … Continue reading The new summer is treating us well – NOT!

There are only 16 days left in spring…

And I still haven’t finished planting out the garden.  I feel like I am in some kind of race against time to get it all done.  Most of the time the weather is my friend and it is warm and sunny, but we get these occasional spring showers that blow in from what seems like nowhere, dumps its load and disappears as quickly as it … Continue reading There are only 16 days left in spring…
