Are you sure it’s summer?

I woke up this morning to rain. And it felt cold with it.  It wasn’t really cold, it was 21°C, it just felt like it because it was so grey and miserable.  Gardening was not possible – well… a determined fanatic would get out there and do something, but today that fanatic was not me.  On other occasions it would have been, but not today. … Continue reading Are you sure it’s summer?

A plague and an explosion!

It is all very dramatic in my garden.  Actually it’s not that dramatic.  Just as I was getting on top of everything and feeling on top of the world, I had a bit of a reality check.  When you have delightful school age kids they bring home all sorts of lovely things – artwork, certificates, permission slips, friends and they are all very welcome.  But … Continue reading A plague and an explosion!

We are nearly there….

The last frost free day is generally regarded as this weekend, which coincidentally has a public holiday tacked onto the end.  So the weather is coming around to a warmer way of thinking and it was a mild 15°C (59F) overnight and so I felt confident enough to leave my tomatoes outside all night in a sheltered place for the final stage of their hardening … Continue reading We are nearly there….

Raindrops the size of golf balls

Ok…  I may be exaggerating a little bit.  But it was driving rain on and off all day.  Mostly on.  I was so determined to push on with my greenhouse build that I even dressed like an ocean going fisherman in big thick wet weather gear, but it was too cumbersome and combined with the wet and the mud it was impossible. So I tried … Continue reading Raindrops the size of golf balls

Apparently working in the rain is not what you should do….

… According to Hubby the Un-Gardener.  There I was doing my thing completely oblivious to what was going on around me.  And he comes along and tells me I should stop and go inside because it was pouring with rain.  I looked around and thought “Oh.  So it is.” It wasn’t raining when I started.  I wanted to tick off number 16 on the list … Continue reading Apparently working in the rain is not what you should do….

How has it come to this?

We are almost halfway through Assembly August and I haven’t assembled anything! To give me a little bit of credit, I have stripped down the greenhouse and removed all the bolts.  I now have to clean it and then start to put it together and I have kicked off the growing season by sowing my peppers, I’ve winter washed my orchard and the rains have … Continue reading How has it come to this?

What kind of winter is this?

Seriously!  Winter is supposed to be cold, wet and yucky, with a roaring fire to keep you warm. Gumboots are meant to be essential to stop your feet getting saturated when walking across the lawn.  Raincoats should be at the ready and warm woolly jumpers should be pretty much glued on.  Jack Frost should be a regular visitor; however we’ve seen more of the Tooth … Continue reading What kind of winter is this?

I let the weather get the better of me.

While I started off the day, busy as a beaver, doing chores inside, the general yuckiness outside descended like a gloomy gloom.  And I’m just being a sook because the boffins are causing fear and panic down south saying an Antarctic snow storm, the likes that haven’t been seen for twenty odd years, is about to descend on the southern part of the country with … Continue reading I let the weather get the better of me.
