Some things just don’t belong on a list.

I have a dreadful problem with procrastination, especially if it is a task I don’t want to do, or I get the idea for something but decide it isn’t important enough to go at the top of the list.  Then I end up with a list – or even a sub-list that contains a whole lot of things that would only take a jiffy to do and shouldn’t have been on the list in the first place.  I’m even worse at emails – I’ll flag something to reply to later as I rush out into the garden and then before I know it the email has disappeared off the current page and out of my thoughts!

Sometimes relegating things to a list, stops me thinking about them and before you know it the opportunity has gone, but had I done it at the time it would have been simple and I wouldn’t have noticed the loss of time – in fact I would have spent more time procrastinating than it would have taken to do the task.

Well – say hello to the new me.  The girl who gets things done.  Well – I’m trying.  It is a real fight against what I’ve always done.  Normally I’m a start at the top of the list and work my way down.  Yesterday I jumped about all over the list and am surprised at how much I managed to achieve.

I started at the top – like normal and sheet mulched my new bed with cardboard.  I came up with a handy dandy idea here – not sure how it will work, but when I use those landscaping pin things – you know the wire bent over, well they often get lost into the garden only to be dug up months later all rusty and no longer fit for purpose.  So to stop my cardboard mulch from blowing away I pinned it all down with the landscape pins, but I cut up a plastic plate – I was aiming for bright colours but they only had white or pink – so pink it is and I punched a couple of holes in it and then put the landscape pin through it so I will have a bright marker to find them again when I have finished with the sheet mulching.  This wasn’t on the list.

Then I moved on to weeding and managed to weed four out of the twenty two beds.  I have to confess they were the easy ones, but if I don’t take care of the weeds while they are small then I will end up going around in circles from one nightmare bed to another.  While I weeded the asparagus I was noticing the difference in the spears from the new ones and the old ones, but some were a little hard to tell which was which so I grabbed some stones and painted them up and used them as a marker for the ones that we can’t eat just yet, so even Hubby the Un-Gardener can harvest some without incurring my wrath!  This wasn’t on the list either.

Then Hubby the Un-Gardener found some time during the day and wanted me to help him with Number three as it was playing on his mind that we weren’t ready for the new arrivals.  So this also got crossed off the list.  I wasn’t going to do that until I got the greenhouse built.

I did work on the greenhouse, I started scrubbing all the glazing bars to get rid of any dirt in the channels, but it was actually hard yakker so I was easily distracted.

We had our rooster for tea.  I poached him slowly and then removed all the meat from the bones so it didn’t look like our friend.  He was really nice; however The Joeyosarus took a tiny bite and declared he couldn’t do it.  Tim the Helper asked if he could have The Joeyosaurus’s portion and gobbled it up.

Come again soon – the sun has surprised us by making a return so I shall be out there again – getting stuff done.
