The long cold winter has finally passed. Oh and what a cold and horrible nasty winter… NOT! Oh my goodness. It was so mild. We had two frosts – at most so a lot of the soil diseases may still be lurking in the warm damp earth. It rained a lot, but once again not as much as it should have. In fact I had to get the hose out and irrigate my winter crops in the middle of winter. But it wasn’t all sunny days either. It was mostly cloudy. But that is all in the past now! Now we have our feet firmly planted in spring!

I love spring. For me it is like the true New Year. The start of the growing season, a fresh slate, all the mistakes of the past forgotten or learnt from. A season full of hope and promise. This will be the year the conditions are perfect and the harvest will be abundant. But first I need to get the greenhouse finished.
In hindsight I think I was a little over ambitious in my desire to have it up by Sunday. What I hadn’t counted on was glass is sharp, cutty and scary and needs to be handled with care. Not something to be rushed, especially if I want to keep my fingertips, toes and possibly arteries intact at the end of the project.

But the greenhouse is in position and despite my weird measuring and wonky paving, it slotted into place perfectly and looks like it belongs there. I feel so proud. Now I just have to get the glass in. I have put nine panes in and come across one broken one. Hopefully there won’t be too many more broken ones, but having been in storage for such a long time it is always a possibility. The glass has been well packed so I think we will be ok.

So slowly and carefully I will push on – with the image of my seedlings straining for the light and I will try my best to finish their new home sooner rather than later.

Come again soon – maybe today will be the day my seedlings move out of my craft room.

The greenhouse looks great!
Thanks Arthur. It has been a big job.
Cheers Sarah : o )
another job for your list…….window cleaning 🙂 i did mine yesterday it was long overdue 🙂 loved the Iris.
Hi Dina. Window cleaning wasn’t something I’d factored in, but I imagine it will be done with more pleasure than goes into washing the house windows!
Cheers Sarah : o )
true true 🙂
lovely to see the greenhouse up Sarah did you start with the roof first and work down with the glass as it the most tricky bit to do?
Hi Linda. Not one to follow instructions I just grabbed the first piece of glass and popped it in where it fit – so it turned out that I did the sides and ends first.
Cheers Sarah : o )
The greenhouse looks great! I love your photo of the yellow iris – striking! my first freesia came out yesterday, joy 🙂
Hi Angela. I forgot just how wonderful freesias smell. It’s a shame we can’t have them all year round.
Cheers Sarah : o )
Yes, and it’s exciting waiting for them to grow and bloom 🙂
What a stunning photo of the iris! Happy spring to you!
Hi there. I love spring flowers, they always seem so bright and cheerful after such a gloomy winter. I’m not all that good at growing summer flowers but I always make sure I put spring bulbs in.
Cheers Sarah : o )
Oh wow, the greenhouse is looking fab and what fantastic photo’s 🙂
Hi Elaine. I am so very nearly finished. I’m getting to the point now where I just want it done.
Cheers Sarah : o )
Lovely photographs. I love the arrival of springtime.
Hi Jean. I remember moaning to myself in the autumn that I shouldn’t have bought so many spring bulbs as it took ages to plant them all, but now they are approaching their full glory and I am so glad I bought so many!
